Free tool

Fade in. Fade out. Smooth the start and end of any song or recording, free, in your browser.

Files over 20:00 are trimmed to the first 20 minutes; a fade longer than the file is shortened to fit.

How it works

01

Choose a file

A WAV, MP3, M4A or FLAC up to twenty minutes: a song, a podcast, a voice note.

02

Set the fades

Choose how many seconds the fade in and the fade out last, up to thirty each, and the curve they follow.

03

Download

Compare with the original and save a WAV. The curves are the same ones the SoundGen studio draws on its clips.

Questions

Which curve should I use?
Smooth (S-curve) suits most music: it eases in and out at both ends. Slow start sounds most gradual on a fade-out because hearing is roughly logarithmic; linear can sound like it drops off suddenly at the end.
How long should a fade-out be?
Song endings commonly fade over 5 to 15 seconds; a podcast intro or a clip for social media usually needs 1 to 3. Very short fades (under 50 ms) are just for removing clicks.
Can I cut the file first?
Yes. The free Audio Trimmer cuts a section out and adds fades in one go; use this tool when you want to keep the whole file.
Is it free, and is my audio uploaded?
Free, with no sign-up. The file is processed inside your browser and never leaves your device.
