Free tool

Change the key. Or the tempo. One without the other, free, in your browser.

Files over 10:00 are trimmed to the first 10 minutes.

How it works

01

Choose a song

Any WAV, MP3, M4A or FLAC up to ten minutes: a backing track, a practice recording, a sample.

02

Set key and speed

Move the key up or down in semitones (12 is an octave) and the speed from half to one-and-a-half times. Each changes without touching the other.

03

Download

Compare with the original and save a WAV. It runs on your device with Signalsmith Stretch, the same engine the SoundGen studio uses.

Questions

How many semitones do I need to change key?
Count the steps between the two keys: G to A is +2, E to C is −4. Use the free Key & BPM Finder to learn a song's key first.
Will it sound natural?
Within a few semitones, yes, for most material. Large shifts change a voice's character (the formants move with the pitch), and very slow speeds can smear sharp drum hits.
Can I slow a song down to learn it?
Yes. Set the speed to 70–85% and leave the key at 0; the pitch stays where it is, so you can play along in the original key.
Is it free, and is my audio uploaded?
Free, with no sign-up. The file is processed inside your browser and never leaves your device.

Right key.
Now build on it.

The SoundGen studio transposes and warps clips on the timeline, follows the project's tempo, and generates parts in your key.
