Tap the beat. Get the BPM. Any key, any click, any tap.
How it works
01
Play the song
In another tab, on a speaker, or in your head.
02
Tap along
Click the pad, tap it on a phone, or press any key on each beat. Four to eight taps is enough.
03
Read the tempo
The BPM is the median of your recent taps, so one early or late tap doesn't throw it. Pause for two seconds to start again.
Questions
- What is BPM?
- Beats per minute: how many beats, usually quarter notes, fall in one minute. Most pop sits between 90 and 130 BPM, house around 120–128, drum & bass around 170.
- Why does my tempo come out half or double?
- You may be tapping every other beat, or on every eighth note. Both are valid readings of the same groove; halve or double to the feel you want.
- Can it find the BPM from a file?
- Yes — the free Key, BPM & Chord Finder analyses an audio file and reads the tempo, key and chords for you.
- Is it free?
- Yes, with no sign-up. Nothing is recorded or uploaded; it only times your taps.
